“I cannot rest from travel: I will drink Life to the lees”
- Alfred Lord Tennyson
I’m Claire. I am 29 years old, a wife, mother, and high energy physicist. I am currently working towards my PhD in particle physics on one of the largest experiments in the world – ATLAS at the Large Hadron Collider, at CERN, Switzerland.
At the beginning of last year I was given the chance to move over to CERN for about 2 years until I complete my PhD. The choice was obvious, particularly as it had been a goal for us to move over there at some point in the future. Of course, that doesn’t necessarily make it easy.
So we packed up our stuff, rented out our house and with only a suitcase each, a pram, and a campcot, headed over to Switzerland in search of a different life.
This is our story…
